Modern Vintage Model Kits

After months of investigation, research, talking to people, and generally making myself unpopular we are now close to start-up.  In the last few months, I have been learning a massive amount about everything from CAD (Computer Aided Design) to laser cutting.  In the past I have been a CAD designer, responsible for CAM (Computer Aided Manufacture) delivery, I have designed and built my own CNC machines, I have developed businesses, delivered systems around the world, and even won awards for programs such as the London Journey Planner, but nothing could have prepared me for this monumental learning curve.

Investment

We have invested in the best industrial laser cutters, which we have then modified to provide a more accurate cut, while increasing overall cutting speed.  We have invested time to identify the best providers of quality materials, ranging from Balsa to RC equipment.  We have invested hours identifying the best total software stack to use, and then more hours to run full end-to-end tests across the entire software stack to identify issues and problems.  

But while there has been blood, sweat and tears, it has all been a great deal of fun.  Yes, there have been stresses, strains and heated discussions, but nothing has compared to the stresses and strains that the corporate world had previously inflicted.

Start-up

We are entering the market doing a soft start-up, what this means is that we will start with a more limited range of services, materials RC model kits and gradually build on that as we identify quality products that we are happy to promote.  As an example, we are currently trying to find a reliable partner for Heat Shrink Covering what won’t break the bank.  We are staggered that a 10M roll of some film can be more than £100.  We will strive to find more affordable reliably sourced quality alternatives.   

The MVM mantra will be all about, quality, sustainability, helpfulness, support, providing a personalised service whenever and wherever possible.
